Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has issued a stern warning to government appointees regarding the unauthorized release of press statements. He emphasized that, moving forward, all appointees must seek clearance from the Secretary to the State Government before sharing any information with the media.
Speaking during the Sunday service at the Uyo Archdiocesan Headquarters of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Itiam Etoi, Uyo, Governor Eno clarified that only the Commissioner for Information and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor are permitted to issue press releases on behalf of the state government. “No government appointee has the right to issue a press statement without clearance from the Secretary to the Government’s office. Only the Commissioner for Information and the Chief Press Secretary are authorized to speak for the government,” he stated.
The Governor further encouraged the citizens, particularly government officials, to contribute to maintaining the state’s ongoing peace and unity by carrying out their duties without creating chaos or engaging in actions that could disrupt the harmony of Akwa Ibom.
Governor Eno also addressed the recent formation of his new Executive Council, clarifying that his intention was not to create a “war cabinet,” but rather to assemble a team focused on delivering the ARISE Agenda and fostering stronger ties across the state. He urged the incoming members to emulate Joseph’s forgiving nature from the biblical story of his time in the Egyptian cabinet and to work diligently toward the state’s development.
“Let’s continue the culture of decency and decorum in Akwa Ibom. We can work together to deliver the promises of the ARISE Agenda and maintain the peace and progress we all enjoy,” Governor Eno said.
In his sermon, the Methodist Archbishop of Uyo, Most Rev. John Ene Koko-Bassey, spoke on the theme of “Forgiveness,” drawing inspiration from Joseph’s story of reconciliation with his brothers who had sold him into slavery. The Archbishop encouraged both Christians and politicians to adopt a forgiving attitude, aligning with the Governor’s leadership in promoting unity and peace. He also warned that unforgiveness could sow bitterness, division, and hinder the state’s progress.
