Manu Garba, a former U17 World Cup champion, has been named head coach of the Nigeria U17 boys’ team, the Golden Eaglets, by the Board of the Nigeria Football Federation.

The NFF’s director of communications, Ademola Olajire, made this announcement in an Abuja statement on Friday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Garba guided the Golden Eaglets to victory in the FIFA U17 World Cup for Nigeria in the United Arab Emirates in 2013 while serving in the same capacity. Kelechi Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi, Isaac Success, Musa Mohammed, Chidiebere Nwakali, and goalkeeper Dele Alampasu were among the players on Garba’s 2013 team.

In their initial match, the team trounced Mexico 6-1. The team lost to Cote d’Ivoire in a penalty shootout, but ultimately finished second at the African U17 Championship in Morocco.

It tied with Sweden 3–3, and it destroyed Iraq 5–0. They crushed Uruguay 2-0 in the quarterfinals, overcame Iran 4-1 in the Round of 16, and thrashed Sweden 3-0 in the semifinals. In the championship game, they defeated Mexico by a same score to win the trophy.

According to Olajire, Garba will start working with the team right away and be in charge of getting them ready for the WAFU B U17 Championship, which will be held in Ghana in May. (NAN)

Manu Garba is a Nigerian association football manager who was born on December 31, 1965. He now serves as the head coach of the national under-17 football team of Nigeria. He took home the FIFA U-17 World Cup trophy in November 2013. He won the 2015 African U-20 Championship in March of that year.
