The Enugu State government has earmarked a substantial N55 billion for the development, upgrade, and rehabilitation of both urban and rural roads in its 2025 fiscal plan.

As part of this budget, notable allocations include N50.27 billion for the Governor’s Office, N665.71 million for the Deputy Governor’s Office, and N3.42 billion for the Secretary to the State Government.

These expenditures are drawn from the state’s total proposed budget of N971 billion for 2025, which Governor Peter Mbah presented to the Enugu State House of Assembly. The proposal emphasizes critical investments in sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

During a detailed analysis of the 2025 Budget Appropriation at the Enugu NUJ Press Centre, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Chris-Roberts Ozongwu, provided these insights.

According to Mr. Ozongwu, dualizing the Nike-Ugwuogo-Opi-Nsukka Road is projected to cost N10 billion, while N1 billion is allocated to complete the Ugwuogo Nike-Agu Ukehe-Umunko Road, along with a 15km stretch within the Igbo Etiti/Enugu local government areas.

For sports infrastructure, N10 billion has been set aside to renovate the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, with an additional N3 billion allocated for revitalizing the Awgu Games Village in Awgu Local Government Area.

On education, the government has allocated N146 billion to equip Smart Schools across the state’s 260 political wards. Furthermore, N100 billion will go towards constructing 200 Integrated Model Smart Schools, each comprising three nursery classrooms, six primary classrooms, and six junior secondary classrooms across the 250 wards in the state’s 17 local government areas.

In addition, N500 million has been allocated for the first phase of building three three-story facilities, including a library, an auditorium, and classrooms at the Awgu Campus.

In healthcare, the budget includes N500 million to establish the Enugu Blood Service Commission and N20 billion to build the Enugu International Hospital on Rangers Avenue.

The agricultural sector also receives significant attention, with N20 billion earmarked to procure 1,000 tractors and equipment to boost mechanized farming. Another N52.5 billion has been allocated to clear and develop 100,000 hectares of land for three Special Crop Processing Agricultural Zones.
