The Edo State Vehicle Recovery Committee, chaired by Kelly Okungbowa, has successfully retrieved 30 government-owned vehicles from officials of the previous administration. The announcement was made on Thursday, with details provided in a statement by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Okungbowa praised whistleblowers for their vital role in aiding the recovery process, which included the return of four vehicles from the residence of a former senior official, as well as another from a different individual.
“We’ve recovered two Land Cruiser Jeeps and two Toyota Hilux trucks from a former senior official of the past administration. One of these vehicles contained campaign materials like posters and umbrellas,” Okungbowa said. “In addition, we recovered another Hilux, bringing the total to 30 vehicles since our operation began.”
The chairman assured the public that more vehicles would be recovered before the committee’s two-week deadline for completing its task. He also called on residents to continue providing helpful information to support the ongoing efforts. “Whistleblowers have played a key role in our success, and we are committed to rewarding anyone who offers valuable tips,” he added.
Okungbowa emphasized that the committee is prepared to travel nationwide to track down any state-owned vehicles, no matter where they are located.
It is worth noting that the committee had previously recovered three vehicles last Friday—one Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses. One of the buses was found to contain bags of rice meant for palliative distribution to Edo residents.
The chairman reiterated the committee’s commitment to ensuring that all government assets are properly accounted for and returned to the state.
