NECO Cautions Against Registration by Intermediaries

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a warning to school owners and relevant stakeholders to refrain from enrolling candidates for its examinations by proxy.

This warning was announced in a statement released on Monday, signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani.

Sani pointed out that such fraudulent practices often lead to identity theft and the issuance of fake results. He further emphasized NECO’s commitment to eliminating all forms of examination malpractice.

“The Council has implemented several measures to combat impersonation in all its examinations. These measures include the use of Biometric Data Capturing Devices, customized answer booklets, and the embossing of candidates’ photographs and dates of birth on original certificates.”

“Additionally, the NECO e-Verify, an online platform for the confirmation and verification of NECO results, was launched last year.”

The Council also urged individuals to be aware that any certificate claimed to be issued by the Council that cannot be verified or authenticated through the NECO e-Verify platform is considered fake.

“The Council therefore urges State Ministries of Education and school owners to ensure that only the personal details of genuine candidates are used for registration in all NECO-conducted examinations.

“Additionally, candidates found guilty of impersonation in the recently released 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination Internal had their results withheld.

“This measure is part of the Council’s comprehensive policy to combat all forms of examination malpractice,” Sani added.
