The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has pledged that his administration will provide state health training institutions with advanced equipment to improve education and produce highly skilled professionals for the region.

Speaking at a reception for the outgoing Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Abubakar Faruk, the governor emphasized that the lack of modern teaching tools in state-owned health institutions is a significant barrier to effective education in accordance with global standards. He stressed the need to address this issue.

“We cannot rely on outdated equipment in our health training institutions while technology rapidly advances in digital and modern tools,” he stated.

Aliyu highlighted that enhancing the health sector is a key priority, forming part of the nine-point smart agenda for the state.

In addition, he announced the recent recruitment of over 800 nurses and midwives who had been awaiting employment for nine years, aiming to fulfill the urgent manpower needs in the state’s health services.

The governor also commended Faruk for his valuable contributions to the development of the state’s School of Nursing during his tenure.

“I assure you that this administration will leverage the outgoing Registrar’s extensive experience for the benefit of our state,” he promised.

During the event, the governor presented an ‘Award of Excellence’ to Senator Aliyu Wamakko in recognition of Faruk’s dedicated service to both the nation and the state.
