The Lagos State Football Association marked a significant achievement on Saturday during its Annual General Assembly at the Molade Okoya Sports Hall, located in Teslim Balogun Stadium. The Congress approved a proposed budget of N3,614,749,550 to fund a range of activities and programs for the 2024/2025 football season.

This budget will support more than 19 football initiatives aimed at engaging over 10,000 active male and female players and officials in the upcoming season. These commendable programs are designed to foster a conducive environment for businesses and promote peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic groups in Lagos State.

Following the budget approval, LSFA General Secretary Akeem Rabiu-Okikioposu expressed his appreciation for the support received from both the Executive Board and Congress. This historic budget allocation for football initiatives is unprecedented among State Football Associations in Nigeria, showcasing the creativity and commitment of the LSFA board, headed by its diligent Chairman, Hajji Gafar Liameed.

Chairman Liameed also recognized the steadfast support from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, encouraging influential individuals and corporate organizations to engage with the Lagos FA’s activities and back its efforts to cultivate a successful and sustainable football environment in the state.

In another notable decision, the Annual General Assembly formally welcomed Ikorodu City FC and Smart City FC into the Congress, recognizing both teams as representatives of the state in the NPFL and NNL, respectively.

The well-attended assembly featured esteemed figures from the football community, including Damilare Orimoloye, SSA to the Executive Governor, Adeboye Anthony, SSA Grassroots to the Hon. Minister of Sports Development, former LSFA Chairman Engr. Waidi Akanni, Sporting Lagos FC Chairman Godwin Enakhena, Pa. Kwame Arthur, and many other stakeholders involved in Lagos football.
