APC in Edo Threatens to Withdraw from Peace Accord Over Unresolved Attack Incident

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has threatened to pull out of today’s peace accord signing ceremony.

Jarrett Tenebe, the State APC chairman, revealed at a press conference on Thursday morning that their decision stemmed from the police’s failure to apprehend opposition party members who attacked APC supporters.

Tenebe explained, “Our party, the All Progressives Congress, feels compelled to explain to Nigerians why we are reluctant to sign the Peace Accord.”

He continued, “A couple of months ago, the former Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, assured the public that the police had identified those responsible for the murder of Inspector Onuh Akor at the Benin airport.”

Inspector Akor was killed by members of the Edo State Security Network during an attack on APC supporters who were welcoming Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and APC Governorship candidate Senator Monday Okpebholo back from Abuja.

Tenebe also pointed out, “It is disheartening that despite more than two months having passed since this violent incident, the police have yet to arrest or prosecute those responsible. Meanwhile, Governor Obaseki, who claims to be the state’s Chief Security Officer, has sheltered these offenders in Government House.”

This development follows a hint from Edo State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday that the PDP might also refrain from signing the Peace Accord.

Obaseki accused the police of biased actions in favor of the APC and waging a campaign against the PDP.
