Dangote Refinery will Resolve Fuel Scarcity- Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has highlighted that the start of fuel production at the Dangote refinery will greatly benefit Nigeria’s economy. The new refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is expected to begin supplying petrol to filling stations within the next 48 hours, as final arrangements with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited are completed.

Abiodun emphasized that the refinery’s operation will address the long-standing issue of fuel shortages and reduce the country’s dependence on fuel imports, a problem that has plagued Nigeria for over thirty years.

In his statement, signed by Chief Press Secretary Lekan Adeniran, Abiodun praised Dangote for his perseverance in advancing this multi-billion-dollar project despite numerous challenges.

He also commended President Bola Tinubu for his role in ensuring the refinery’s operational status within his administration and for his efforts to revitalize other refineries, which are expected to significantly lower fuel prices once fully operational.

Abiodun described the refinery’s launch as a major milestone not only for Dangote but for Nigeria and the broader African continent. He noted that the establishment of this refinery signifies a transformative shift in the regional energy landscape, demonstrating the impact of vision, determination, and commitment to economic progress.

By producing petrol domestically, the refinery will alleviate the country’s reliance on imported fuel, which has strained foreign exchange reserves and impeded efforts toward self-sufficiency.

The governor pointed out that this local production will decrease the outflow of foreign currency, thereby fortifying the nation’s economy. This development supports President Tinubu’s administration’s goals of economic diversification and reducing the dependence on oil exports alone.

Abiodun further mentioned that the refinery’s economic impact extends beyond fuel production, promising to create thousands of jobs and contribute to lowering unemployment rates.

In addition to enhancing local employment and economic activities, the refinery is expected to improve Nigeria’s energy security. With its ability to produce a large volume of petrol, the country will better meet its energy needs, mitigating the volatility associated with fuel shortages and price swings. This stability will foster a more favorable business environment and attract foreign investments, further accelerating economic growth.
