The Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, has shifted its second semester examinations after suspected cultists killed one of their students.

Ahmed Fabiyi, a final year student of history and diplomacy was said to be writing his last paper when the suspected cultists dragged him out of the examination hall and stabbed him several times.

According to the Registrar of TASUED, Dapo Oke, who confirmed the incident on Thursday, said the victim was attacked during the signing off ceremony by final year students of the Department of History Education.

He said, “He (Fabiyi) was dragged out of the ceremony and stabbed severally and not shot dead.

“The security officers rescued the victim from the hoodlums and he was taken to the school’s health facility. He died while being later taken to the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital.”

After disclosing that the ongoing second semester 2023/2024 examinations had been suspended till further notice, he assured the students of their safety and advised them to remain calm, stating that they would be notified about the resumption of the examinations.

“The police are combing the entire university’s host communities to fish out those behind the killing.

“We urge parents not to panic. The situation has been brought under control. The university is on top of the situation and a few arrests have been made,” he added.

The police spokeswoman in the state, Omolola Odutola, said that officers moved immediately to the scene of the incident and all efforts are being made to ensure that all perpetrators are apprehended.
