The 21 local government chairmen and 226 councillors who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State have received the backing of the party’s governorship flagbearer, Ahmed Galadima.
Galadima said the mass political realignment could improve the APC’s chances of securing wider support across the state as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
His media aide, Adamu Sambo, disclosed this in a statement released on Thursday, noting that the candidate viewed the move as evidence that the defectors had reassessed the state’s political direction.
The APC hopeful praised the council leaders for what he described as a forward-looking decision, adding that collective action and effective leadership were necessary to advance Adamawa’s interests.
He said the movement into the APC reflected a preference for a political platform that prioritised cooperation, responsible leadership and development.
Galadima also acknowledged Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s role in fostering relationships across party lines, crediting his approach to political engagement with helping the APC attract more support in Adamawa.
He further associated the latest defections with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, arguing that the arrival of elected council officials and their political networks could expand the party’s influence before the next general elections.
According to Galadima, the shift in political allegiance offers an avenue for greater collaboration, better administration and policies that respond to the needs of Adamawa residents.
