President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said his meeting with members of the City Boy Movement, Relax Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria and other youth groups reminded him of the reasons he sought the presidency, expressing appreciation for their continued support for his administration.
The President said the energy, courage, determination and belief demonstrated by the young Nigerians reinforced his commitment to building a country that meets their aspirations and provides opportunities for future generations.
Tinubu disclosed this in a message published on his official X handle following his meeting with members of the youth groups, who gathered in Abuja from different parts of the country.
According to the President, seeing the young men and women assembled in support of his administration reminded him of Nigeria’s potential and what could be achieved through collective effort.
“When I walked into the hall yesterday and saw the young men and women of the City Boy Movement, Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria, and other youth groups gathered from across our country, I saw something that reminded me why I sought the presidency of this great nation,” he said.
The President added: “I saw Nigeria. I saw its energy, its courage, its determination, and the future we are working to build together.”
The meeting highlights efforts by groups supporting Tinubu to maintain youth engagement and strengthen public mobilisation around his administration as political activities gradually build ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu thanks supporters for standing by him
Tinubu commended the young supporters for standing by him during difficult moments, defending their convictions and taking his message to communities across the country.
He said their continued belief in the possibility of a greater Nigeria demonstrated the important role young people could play in shaping the country’s future.
The President also acknowledged that he had not always found the opportunity to express his appreciation to the groups personally, saying he wanted to use the meeting to communicate his gratitude directly.
“There are words I do not say often enough, and yesterday, I wanted you to hear them directly from me.
“Thank you. Thank you for believing. Thank you for standing with me,” he said.
His message focused on appreciation, political commitment and the importance of maintaining the confidence of young Nigerians who have publicly identified with his administration.
The President did not outline any new youth-focused policies or programmes in the message, but reiterated his determination to build a country that reflects the hopes and expectations of the younger generation.
President renews commitment to Nigeria’s future
Tinubu said he remained committed to building a Nigeria worthy of the trust, sacrifices and aspirations of the young people who support his leadership.
“I remain committed to building a Nigeria worthy of your faith, your sacrifices, and your aspirations.
“Together, we will deliver the future you deserve,” he added.
The statement comes as young Nigerians continue to play a significant role in political mobilisation, public debate and campaigns around governance, economic opportunity and national development.
Youth organisations supporting the President have used their platforms to promote his administration and communicate its message to communities across the country.
However, the broader question of how the administration’s policies are affecting young Nigerians remains central to public discussion, particularly in areas such as employment, education, entrepreneurship, security and the cost of living.
For supporters, Tinubu’s message represents a reaffirmation of his commitment to working with young people and recognising their contribution to his political movement.
For the administration, sustaining that confidence will depend not only on expressions of gratitude but also on the extent to which its policies and programmes deliver tangible improvements in the lives of young Nigerians.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, youth support and mobilisation are likely to remain important elements of the political landscape, with parties and candidates seeking to demonstrate that their programmes can meet the expectations of the country’s younger population.
