Tambuwal Rules Out Return to APC, Reaffirms ADC Loyalty

Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has no intention of returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to his media team, which has challenged reports linking the senator to a possible switch from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The clarification was made on Monday by Prince Daniel, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Tambuwal, who said the former governor’s political direction remained unchanged despite rumours gaining traction online.

Daniel attributed the reports to pictures and short video recordings shared on social media, which triggered questions about Tambuwal’s relationship with the ruling party.

He maintained that such materials did not establish that the senator was considering a move to the APC and urged Nigerians not to treat unconfirmed claims as established information.

The media aide explained that politicians could maintain personal and professional relationships with colleagues in other parties without intending to change their political platform.

He added that Tambuwal’s connections across party lines were a product of years spent in public office and should not be mistaken for negotiations over his political future.

According to the statement, the senator is concentrating on expanding the ADC’s reach, fostering partnerships and attracting support as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

Daniel also appealed to journalists and social media users to seek confirmation before sharing reports about Tambuwal, warning against presenting assumptions as established facts.

The media office further urged Nigerians to direct more attention to pressing national concerns, including rising economic pressures, insecurity and the performance of public institutions.

Tambuwal led Sokoto State for eight years, from 2015 to 2023, before securing a Senate seat for Sokoto South in the 2023 elections.

His political career also includes serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives and contesting for the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential ticket.

His subsequent alignment with the ADC has brought him into the fold of opposition figures exploring ways to strengthen their political influence before the next general elections.

The development comes as Nigeria’s political landscape witnesses fresh discussions about alliances and possible coalitions ahead of the 2027 contest against President Bola Tinubu and the APC.

Despite the rumours, Tambuwal’s media team reiterated that there had been no decision to return to the ruling party and directed the public to the AWT Media Office for reliable information about his political engagements.
