A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is offering financial incentives and vehicles to some lawmakers to withdraw from the 2027 elections.
Galadima made the allegation on Tuesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, claiming that the move was aimed at reducing opposition to APC candidates ahead of the general elections.
According to him, members of state Houses of Assembly who agree to give up their tickets for APC candidates are allegedly being offered N50 million, while members of the House of Representatives are said to be offered N200 million and a vehicle.
Galadima further claimed that some politicians had already withdrawn from the 2027 race after receiving the alleged payments.
He also alleged that a woman from Zamfara State was coordinating the distribution of the money from a hotel in Abuja. He claimed that she recently met with APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and presented the names of candidates who had allegedly withdrawn from the race.
Galadima said the alleged arrangement was part of a broader strategy to weaken opposition parties and give APC candidates an easier path in several constituencies.
However, he did not provide evidence during the interview to independently substantiate the allegations or identify the lawmakers he claimed had accepted the money.
The APC and Yilwatda had not publicly responded to the latest allegations as of the time of the report. Yilwatda had previously denied claims that politicians were offered incentives to join the APC, maintaining that such political movements were voluntary.
