Women in Rivers State have been urged to take a more active role in grassroots political mobilisation as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
The call was made by the Chairman of the Governing Board of the South-South Development Commission, Chibudom Nwuche, who asked women to leverage their influence within their communities in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and the Rivers State APC governorship candidate, Kingsley Chinda.
Nwuche spoke during the Tinubu/Shettima 2027 Grassroots Mobilisation and Voter’s Sensitisation Programme held in Port Harcourt. The programme was organised around the theme, ‘My PVC my Power.’
According to him, women occupy an important position in the political process because of their ability to mobilise people, educate voters and encourage participation at the community level.
Represented by Mr Ajugo Kingdom, the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives said political movements could not achieve lasting results without establishing a strong connection with people at the grassroots.
He said, “Through your passion, organisational capacity, community networks, and leadership, you make significant contributions to political mobilisation, voter education, civic participation, and democratic development.
“You are not merely participants in the political process. You are important stakeholders whose influence extends across families, communities, institutions, and society. God has endowed you with unique abilities.
“The 2027 Presidential election is about 120 days away. Every day must therefore be used productively to strengthen our organization (APC), engage our communities, sensitise voters and build the relationship necessary for success,” he said.
Nwuche encouraged the women to remain committed to their responsibilities, urging them to demonstrate discipline and integrity while contributing to the party’s grassroots activities.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress reiterated its backing for the Rainbow Coalition, a political strategy initiated by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The state APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, said the party remained aligned with the coalition, which he said was actively mobilising support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.
