The Labour Party presidential candidate, Chibuzor Okereke, has urged Nigerians to take a greater interest in politics and participate actively in the electoral process.
Okereke made the call in a statement on Thursday, stressing that political participation should not be left in the hands of a small group of citizens.
He said Nigerians have an important role to play in deciding who represents them at the federal, state and local government levels, noting that decisions made by elected officials directly affect the daily lives of citizens.
The Labour Party candidate also encouraged eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards where necessary and participate in the 2027 elections.
According to him, economic development is closely connected to political participation because government policies and decisions shape the environment in which businesses and other economic activities operate.
Okereke said that if elected president, his administration would focus on strengthening Nigeria’s federal system, improving the local government structure and introducing zero-based budgeting.
He also outlined plans to reform government institutions under what he described as the “Nigerians First Vision,” while promoting greater participation of youths, women and persons with disabilities in governance.
The candidate further said his administration would seek to move Nigeria away from a palliative-based economy towards a more productive system aimed at improving citizens’ socio-economic conditions.
