Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are set to record a decisive victory in the Federal Capital Territory during the 2027 presidential election.
Wike based his confidence on the number of infrastructure projects being executed by the Federal Government across Abuja and various satellite communities within the territory.
The minister spoke on Wednesday during an inspection tour of several ongoing road projects, including the Apo-Karshi and Gwarinpa-Kubwa road corridors.
He said the performance of any government should be judged by the improvements it delivers to the people, arguing that tangible development remains an important factor in determining electoral support.
According to Wike, the Tinubu administration has demonstrated that its promises can be translated into projects with visible benefits for residents.
He maintained that the government had responded to demands for improved infrastructure by embarking on projects across different parts of the FCT.
Wike also took aim at opposition parties seeking to gain political ground in Abuja ahead of the 2027 elections, challenging them to present concrete achievements to residents.
The minister argued that voters would examine the records of the various political parties and candidates before making their choices at the polls.
He said political campaigns based solely on promises would not be sufficient to convince residents who could assess the projects already delivered within the territory.
Wike further expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction on the roads inspected, stating that contractors were making considerable progress.
He disclosed that the long-standing Apo-Karshi Road project was expected to be completed in November, while work on the Gwarinpa-Kubwa corridor was projected to reach completion in December.
The minister said the number of projects being delivered had exceeded the initial plans of the administration.
He described the projects as part of the government’s efforts to provide improved transportation infrastructure and ease movement for residents across the FCT.
Wike also spoke about the recent demolition activities in parts of Abuja’s Central Business District, defending the FCT Administration’s decision to enforce planning regulations.
He rejected claims that affected property owners and occupants were removed without adequate warning.
According to him, the administration had issued notices to the affected persons more than six months before the enforcement exercise commenced.
The minister insisted that the government would continue to uphold the Abuja Master Plan and would not allow emotional appeals to prevent the enforcement of approved development regulations.
He maintained that compliance with the city’s planning laws was necessary to preserve the structure and development pattern of the nation’s capital.
Wike said the administration would remain focused on delivering infrastructure while ensuring that development within the FCT conforms to established regulations.
His remarks come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with infrastructure delivery and governance expected to feature prominently in campaigns across the Federal Capital Territory.
