The national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has commenced fresh efforts to strengthen cooperation among members of the party in Imo State.
Dickson met with the party’s flag bearers, senior officials and other prominent members of the Imo chapter on Saturday as part of measures aimed at resolving internal disagreements and fostering greater understanding among stakeholders.
The former Bayelsa State governor disclosed the development in a statement published on his verified X account, describing the engagement as a positive and productive discussion.
He said those who attended the meeting expressed their readiness to set aside their differences and collaborate towards advancing the interests of the NDC in the state.
Dickson explained that the gathering was primarily focused on consultation and reconciliation, with the objective of bringing the various factions and interests within the party together.
He encouraged the stakeholders to sustain the progress recorded during the latest engagement by maintaining dialogue and organising further meetings.
According to him, continued interaction among party members would provide an avenue for outstanding issues to be addressed while creating room for a broader reconciliation process.
The NDC leader emphasised that every important stakeholder should be included in the peace-building initiative, noting that genuine unity would require the involvement and cooperation of all sides.
He further announced plans by the national leadership to dispatch a group of senior officials to Imo State in the near future.
The delegation, he said, would assist local party leaders in advancing the reconciliation programme and strengthening relationships among members.
Dickson said the meeting was attended by candidates and leaders of the party and was coordinated by former Imo State Governor, Chief Achike Udenwa, who currently provides leadership for the party in the state.
He praised Udenwa for his efforts in maintaining stability and encouraging dialogue among members of the Imo chapter.
Dickson appealed to the former governor to continue providing strong leadership while working closely with the national executives of the party.
He also challenged candidates and other party officials to play constructive roles in resolving disputes rather than allowing disagreements to weaken the organisation.
The national leader maintained that party members should become advocates for peace and reconciliation, particularly at a time when unity remains important to the NDC’s political ambitions.
He said participants at the meeting agreed to cooperate in pursuit of electoral success for the party’s candidates across the different positions being contested.
Dickson stressed that achieving victory would require collective commitment, mutual respect and a willingness among members to work together despite their individual differences.
He noted that the interests of the party should remain the priority and urged stakeholders to avoid actions capable of deepening existing divisions.
The meeting is part of the NDC’s ongoing attempts to address internal concerns and create a more united political structure in Imo State.
Dickson expressed optimism that continued consultations would produce lasting solutions and improve cooperation between party leaders, candidates and other stakeholders.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the national leadership to supporting the state chapter throughout the reconciliation process.
The NDC leader urged all concerned parties to embrace dialogue, demonstrate understanding and work collectively towards strengthening the party ahead of future political engagements.
He said a united party would be better positioned to pursue its objectives and improve its chances of recording success at the polls.
