Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on political leaders and other stakeholders across the state to maintain the current atmosphere of peace and concentrate on initiatives that will improve the lives of residents.
The governor made the appeal on Monday while speaking at the commissioning of the Omademe Internal Roads Project in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Fubara said his administration would remain committed to delivering meaningful projects and improving the welfare of the people until the end of his tenure. He maintained that the impact of an administration should not be judged primarily by the length of time it spends in office, but by the positive contributions it makes to society.
According to the governor, every opportunity to serve should be used to create tangible benefits for the people. He assured residents that his government would continue implementing projects and programmes capable of contributing to the development of the state.
He said the administration would remain focused on delivering results and encouraged citizens not to become discouraged by political developments or uncertainties surrounding the future.
Fubara also appealed to political actors in Rivers State to work collectively towards protecting the peace currently being experienced across the state. He stressed that political differences should not be allowed to undermine the progress of the state or divide its people.
The governor said he had chosen to move beyond previous political disagreements and concentrate on the future. He urged other leaders to adopt the same approach by putting past disputes aside and working together for the common interest of Rivers residents.
Fubara’s remarks come against the backdrop of the prolonged political disagreement between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, which had generated significant tension within the state’s political landscape.
However, the governor indicated that he was no longer interested in revisiting previous disagreements. Instead, he said his attention was firmly directed towards the opportunities and responsibilities ahead.
He encouraged Rivers people to remain hopeful and support efforts aimed at promoting unity, stability and development across the state.
Fubara further emphasised that the administration’s achievements should be measured by the value created for the people rather than the number of days left in office. He said he would continue working and delivering projects until his final day as governor.
The governor also expressed optimism about the future, noting that circumstances could still change in ways that may present new opportunities for service and contribution.
He therefore urged political leaders, regardless of their affiliations or previous differences, to come together and sustain the prevailing calm.
According to him, Rivers State can only achieve meaningful progress when its leaders and citizens work collectively rather than remain focused on past political battles.
Fubara said the state should look beyond previous conflicts and concentrate on building a better future. He urged everyone to approach the task ahead as members of one team, with the shared objective of advancing Rivers State and contributing positively to Nigeria’s development.
He reiterated that his commitment to the people remained firm and that he would continue to pursue projects and initiatives capable of leaving a lasting impact on the state.
