Labour unions across the country are set to hold an emergency meeting to determine their next line of action as it awaits a response to the national minimum wage tripartite committee report submitted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The meeting’s outcome will determine  whether or not the suspended strike action will resume in the coming days.

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), made known this development.

According to Upah, the appropriate organs of the two unions will meet, and then their decision will be communicated to the public.

However, the meeting’s specific date has not been disclosed.

The minimum wage tripartite committee’s report, submitted on Monday, includes proposals from state governors (N57,000) and the organised private sector (N62,000). The federal government offered N62,000, while the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) confirmed receiving the report on Monday.

The President is expected to act on the report and send an executive bill to the National Assembly before June 12, Nigeria’s Democracy Day celebrations.

NLC President Joe Ajaero, speaking at the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, ruled out an immediate strike resumption.

Recall that an indefinite strike declared by the labour last week Monday was suspended for a week to allow for negotiations.

Labour maintained its stance at N250,000.
