Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Donald Duke, has expressed concern over the state of the nation, warning that Nigeria faces a looming disaster if urgent steps are not taken to change its current trajectory.
Speaking during an interview on Tuesday, the former Cross River State governor said he returned to active politics because of what he described as the country’s worsening situation, urging opposition parties to unite in the interest of Nigeria.
Duke argued that the current leadership has failed to address the nation’s critical challenges, despite many of those in power having been part of the country’s democratic journey since 1999.
“I returned to politics because of the urgency of where we are in Nigeria today. Disaster is looming if we don’t change the trajectory.
“You could be a spectator and make all sorts of analyses, or you could get involved. The direction the country is going requires urgent intervention.
“The folks who are in charge of the country today are generally my generation, and the president and I were the class of ’99. But the direction the country is going requires very urgent intervention.
“I’m not a member of the ruling party. So automatically, I’m in the opposition. Ideally, the opposition should come together,” Duke said.
