An All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in Kaduna State, Baba Jibril, has rejected recent allegations levelled against Governor Uba Sani, describing the claims as politically driven and unsupported by any concrete legal evidence.
Jibril, who made the statement on Tuesday in Abuja, was responding to renewed discussions surrounding a petition reportedly filed against the governor in 2006. He maintained that the allegations being circulated had not been proven by any competent court of law and had not led to any formal prosecution by relevant anti-corruption authorities.
The APC chieftain urged Nigerians to judge Governor Sani based on his contributions, achievements and years of public service rather than what he described as repeated accusations aimed at damaging the governor’s reputation.
According to Jibril, the claims against the Kaduna governor were merely attempts by political opponents to create controversy and distract attention from his performance in office.
He stated that Governor Sani had built a strong public record through years of service, adding that his commitment to democracy and good governance started long before he entered partisan politics.
Jibril highlighted Sani’s role in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle, noting his involvement in groups such as the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) and the Campaign for Democracy. He said the governor’s participation in these movements demonstrated his dedication to the fight for democratic values and citizens’ rights.
The APC leader argued that Sani’s political journey was rooted in advocacy and public service, rather than personal ambition, stressing that his contributions during the struggle for democratic rule earned him recognition among pro-democracy activists.
He further called on critics to focus on verifiable facts and the governor’s track record instead of relying on allegations that had not been legally established.
Jibril also drew attention to Governor Sani’s achievements during his time as the senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, describing his legislative activities as evidence of his commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.
He noted that while serving in the National Assembly, Sani sponsored several bills and contributed to debates on issues affecting his constituents and the country at large.
According to him, Sani’s record as a lawmaker reflected his interest in promoting policies that addressed social and economic challenges facing the people.
Jibril insisted that public officials should be assessed based on their actions, responsibilities and impact on society rather than accusations that lack judicial backing.
He urged Nigerians to disregard what he termed politically motivated narratives and instead consider the governor’s history of activism, legislative contributions and current responsibilities as the leader of Kaduna State.
The APC chieftain maintained that attempts to tarnish Governor Sani’s image through unverified claims would not change the facts surrounding his public service career.
He added that constructive criticism was welcome in a democratic society, but allegations without proof should not be used as a tool for political attacks.
Jibril reaffirmed his confidence in Governor Uba Sani’s leadership and called for a more objective assessment of public office holders based on their achievements, integrity and commitment to serving the people.
