The factional National Chairman of the Accord Party, Prof. Chris Imumolen, has advised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to focus on his administration’s performance rather than blaming President Bola Tinubu for his political challenges ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for August 15.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Imumolen alleged that growing dissatisfaction among residents over governance and development had weakened the governor’s chances of securing another term in office.
According to him, feedback gathered from across Osun State suggests that voters are placing greater emphasis on accountability, good governance, and tangible development than on political rhetoric.
The Accord Party chairman also accused the Adeleke administration of failing to deliver meaningful development despite what he described as substantial monthly statutory allocations received by the state from the Federal Government.
He urged the governor to take responsibility for what he termed the shortcomings of his administration instead of attributing his political difficulties to external factors.
“Governor Adeleke must leave President Bola Tinubu out of his self-inflicted woes. He has failed the people of Osun State despite the huge monthly allocations flowing into the state’s coffers. The lack of visible progress across crucial sectors is a clear testament to an administration that has completely lost its focus,” Imumolen said.
Imumolen further claimed that internal and independent opinion polls available to his party indicated a significant decline in the governor’s popularity, adding that the governor faces an uphill task in the forthcoming governorship election.
“Opinion polls at our disposal have clearly shown that Governor Adeleke cannot scale through the election of August 15. Our party had earlier charged Governor Adeleke to take governance and performance seriously, but he consistently failed to heed our warnings. Now, the consequences of that negligence are catching up with him. Nobody is planning to rig you out,” he stated.
Responding to concerns raised by the governor’s camp over the possibility of electoral malpractice, Imumolen dismissed the allegations as an attempt to prepare the ground for a potential electoral defeat.
He maintained that claims of possible rigging were intended to divert attention from what he described as widespread public dissatisfaction with the governor’s performance.
According to him, the people of Osun State are prepared to exercise their constitutional right to elect leaders they believe can better address the state’s developmental needs.
“Now that the people have concluded to vote him out, he is suddenly shouting rigging. Let it be known that nobody is planning to rig you out. The voters of Osun State are simply ready to hold you accountable for your performance, and they will use their constitutional power to elect leadership that genuinely serves them,” Imumolen added.
