ADC Unveils 72-Hour Campaign Strategy Ahead of 2027 Presidential Election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has outlined its plans for the first 72 hours of its 2027 presidential campaign, saying the opening phase will demonstrate whether the party is genuinely prepared to govern or merely participating in the election.

Campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to begin on August 19, in accordance with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement posted on X on Tuesday, the ADC Vanguard, the party’s mobilisation group, announced that the campaign would commence with a nationwide policy address by its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

According to the group, Atiku will unveil the party’s economic agenda, security reforms and governance priorities, promising Nigerians clear and measurable commitments rather than what it described as “recycled slogans.”

The statement added that the party would immediately follow the policy address with a National Youth Town Hall, where young Nigerians would have the opportunity to directly question the presidential ticket on issues affecting the country.

The engagement is expected to focus on employment, education, technology, migration, housing and the rising cost of living. The ADC said the concerns raised during the session would help shape its campaign agenda.

“Next will come a National Youth Town Hall. Young Nigerians will question the ticket openly on jobs, education, technology, migration, housing and the cost of living. Their concerns will shape the campaign agenda rather than decorate rallies,” the statement said.

The mobilisation group also disclosed that the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, would convene a summit involving the party’s governorship, senatorial and House of Representatives candidates.

According to the statement, the meeting will align state-level campaign activities with the national strategy, identify priority constituencies, address organisational challenges and establish standards for the lawful protection of election results.

The ADC said the first 72 hours of its campaign would conclude with a nationwide grassroots mobilisation exercise targeting wards, markets, tertiary institutions, professional associations and local communities.

Under the strategy, volunteers will be assigned defined responsibilities, state coordinators will receive performance targets, and each state chapter will operate under a structured campaign timetable.

Drawing a contrast with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the ADC Vanguard argued that while the APC would rely on the advantages of incumbency and official visibility, the ADC intended to focus on policy-driven messaging, organisational discipline and grassroots mobilisation.

The group further stated that the opening phase of the campaign would prioritise presenting the ADC as “a government in waiting” rather than staging elaborate rallies or ceremonial events.

“APC will rely on incumbency and official visibility. ADC will answer with policy, structure and disciplined organisation.

“The opening days will not be consumed by motorcades or ceremonial speeches. They will present a government in waiting, ready to explain what it will do, who will do it and how Nigerians will measure delivery,” the statement concluded.
