Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed confidence that the overwhelming support recorded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recent Ekiti State governorship election will be replicated across the country in the 2027 presidential election, resulting in the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
Umahi made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, during a courtesy visit to his office in Mabushi, Abuja.
Congratulating Governor Oyebanji on his landslide victory, the minister also hailed President Tinubu and the APC, describing the election outcome as a clear endorsement of the administration’s infrastructure and development agenda.
“It happened in Ekiti. It also happened in the off-cycle elections at the National Assembly across the country,” Umahi said, adding that the APC’s growing acceptance was driven by President Tinubu’s commitment to delivering infrastructure projects across all parts of Nigeria.
According to him, the President has ensured a fair distribution of road projects and other critical infrastructure across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“There is no place where we have road challenges that the President is not intervening. It is for the first time that we have a fair distribution of infrastructure across the thirty-six states and the FCT,” he said.
Expressing optimism ahead of the 2027 general election, Umahi declared: “As it happened in Ekiti, so shall it happen for the President in 2027.”
The minister also assured Governor Oyebanji that the newly approved Ado–Ijan–Ilumoba–Ikole Road project would be awarded through a transparent procurement process, noting that the state government would be informed of the successful contractor to enable effective monitoring.
Earlier, Governor Oyebanji attributed the APC’s unprecedented victory in Ekiti to President Tinubu’s prompt intervention in key road infrastructure and Umahi’s commitment to implementing the President’s approvals.
He cited the reconstruction of the Itawure–Aramoko–Ado Road, which had remained abandoned for years despite repeated promises by previous administrations, as a major factor that restored public confidence.
Oyebanji recalled that contractors were mobilised to the project site within three weeks of President Tinubu’s approval following discussions with the Minister of Works.
He said the swift execution of the project strengthened public support for the President and significantly influenced the outcome of the governorship election, where the APC won all 16 local government areas, all wards, and secured 85.6 per cent of the total votes cast.
The governor further disclosed that after presenting his certificate of return to President Tinubu, the President approved another major project—the construction of the Ado–Ijan–Ilumoba–Ikole Road, a key route linking the South to the North.
Describing the Tinubu administration as the most impactful in Ekiti State’s history, Oyebanji said the state had witnessed unprecedented federal interventions in road infrastructure, agriculture, and healthcare.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the Minister of Works for their commitment to the state’s development and voiced confidence that Ekiti people would continue to support the President in the future.
