Former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, was on Tuesday sighted at the Lagos Directorate 1 office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.
A source within the anti-graft agency said Okowa’s visit may be connected to the ongoing investigation into allegations of abuse of office and financial misconduct during his tenure as governor.
The former governor has been under EFCC investigation since leaving office over allegations that about N1.3 trillion from the 13 per cent derivation funds allocated to Delta State between 2015 and 2023 was diverted.
Okowa was initially arrested on November 4, 2024, and later questioned at the commission’s Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate as part of the probe.
According to the source, the former governor visited the Lagos office to seek the release of his international passport to enable him travel abroad for what was described as urgent medical treatment.
However, it was not immediately clear whether the EFCC granted the request and returned the travel document.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the EFCC spokesperson, Mr. Dele Oyewale, were unsuccessful, as calls to his telephone line were not answered at the time of filing this report.
