Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has endorsed the selection of Mr. Terry Igiebor as head of the Edo State Ecological Funding and Management Commission.

The announcement was made public on Monday through a press release from the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor. The statement explained that the decision forms part of the administration’s plan to improve environmental administration, enhance ecological fund oversight, and support development at the community level.

According to the release, Igiebor’s appointment is intended to strengthen the commission’s capacity to respond to environmental issues affecting different parts of Edo State, while ensuring proper allocation and management of ecological resources for public benefit.

Terry Igiebor is described as a well-known businessman and grassroots political actor with a strong record of community engagement. He is recognised for his involvement in local development efforts and for supporting initiatives aimed at improving living conditions at the community level.

Prior to this nomination, he served on the Edo State Audit Service Commission, where he contributed to strengthening accountability systems, improving transparency in public administration, and supporting oversight functions within government institutions.

The government noted that his background in both private enterprise and public service influenced his selection for the role, particularly his experience in governance and community-focused development work.

Officials stated that the appointment aligns with the state’s broader objective of addressing environmental challenges such as erosion, flooding, and land degradation, while also ensuring more effective use of ecological intervention funds.

However, the nomination is still subject to approval, as it will be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation in accordance with established legal procedures.

The government emphasized that legislative review is a required step to validate the appointment and ensure transparency and compliance with due process.

Once confirmed, the commission is expected to play a stronger role in coordinating ecological projects, managing environmental funding, and supporting sustainability programmes across the state.

Overall, the appointment is seen as part of efforts to reinforce institutional capacity, improve environmental governance, and promote sustainable development initiatives across Edo State.
