Sam Amadi: Parties Are Running Against Peter Obi

Director of the Abuja School of Social Thought and Politics, Sam Amadi, has claimed that political actors are focusing more on Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi than on incumbent President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

Amadi described the emerging political landscape as unusual, arguing that attention appears to be centred on Obi rather than the sitting president.

In a post on X, he wrote: “Everyone is running against Peter Obi for the presidency, not against the incumbent president, Bola Tinubu. This is the most farcical election in Nigeria’s history, and some self-proclaimed intellectuals and technocrats are fully immersed in the illogic.”

Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party, is expected to seek the presidency again in 2027.

The former Anambra State governor is likely to face stiff competition from President Tinubu, who is expected to seek re-election, as well as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), among other contenders.
