2027 Polls: Okpebholo Raises Concern Over Growing Insecurity

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has expressed concern over the rising cases of kidnapping across the country as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections, warning that insecurity must not be allowed to escalate.

The governor spoke on Sunday during a worship service at LoveWorld City (Christ Embassy) in Benin City, where he called for intensified prayers against kidnapping, cultism, and other security challenges facing the nation.

Okpebholo described the increasing wave of abductions, especially as political activities gather momentum ahead of the elections, as a troubling development that requires urgent attention.

“This country does not belong to kidnappers. No individual or group should hold the nation hostage for personal or political interests,” he said.

He added that while kidnapping has become a growing concern as the election season approaches, the combined efforts of government, security agencies, and the prayers of Nigerians would help overcome the challenge.

“As elections draw closer, kidnapping has become a growing concern. However, with the prayers of God’s people and collective efforts, we believe these challenges will be overcome,” the governor stated.

Okpebholo urged Nigerians to continue praying for peace, security, and economic recovery, stressing that unity and collective responsibility are vital to addressing the country’s challenges.

He also called for prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking God to grant him wisdom, strength, and guidance in leading the nation.

According to the governor, tackling insecurity and economic hardship requires both divine intervention and sustained commitment from citizens and governments at all levels.

In his remarks, the officiating pastor, Moses Olayemi, offered special prayers for Nigeria, its leaders, and communities, seeking divine peace, protection, and economic restoration.

Olayemi also commended Governor Okpebholo for ongoing development projects in Edo State, particularly improvements in road infrastructure, noting that residents are already beginning to feel the positive impact of the administration’s efforts.
