Taraba PDP Denies Imposition Of Governorship Candidate Ahead Of 2027

The Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed allegations that it has imposed a governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the party remains committed to a transparent and democratic selection process.

The party’s leadership described the claims as false and misleading, stating that no individual has been endorsed or chosen as the PDP governorship candidate for the next election. According to party officials, the process for selecting candidates will follow the party’s constitution and established guidelines.

In a statement issued by the party, leaders urged members and supporters to disregard rumours suggesting that certain individuals had already been favoured for the governorship ticket. They maintained that all qualified aspirants would be given equal opportunities to participate in the party’s primary election when the time comes.

The PDP leadership further emphasized its commitment to internal democracy, noting that the party has consistently upheld fair competition and due process in the selection of candidates. It stressed that any attempt to create division through unfounded allegations could undermine party unity and distract members from the task of strengthening the party ahead of future elections.

Party stakeholders also called on members to remain calm and avoid actions capable of causing unnecessary tension within the party. They encouraged aspirants and their supporters to continue engaging with party structures through legitimate channels rather than relying on speculation and misinformation.

According to the PDP, discussions currently taking place within the party are focused on strengthening its structures, expanding membership, and positioning the party for future electoral success. The leadership insisted that no decision regarding the governorship ticket has been made.

Political observers note that rumours of candidate imposition often emerge as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of elections. Analysts believe that clear communication from party leaders is essential to preventing internal conflicts and maintaining confidence among members.

The denial comes amid increasing political consultations and realignments across Taraba State as politicians begin preparations for the 2027 election cycle. Several individuals have reportedly been linked with possible governorship ambitions, fueling speculation about the party’s future direction.

Despite the rumours, the PDP leadership reiterated that the governorship candidate will emerge through a credible and democratic process that reflects the will of party members. It also pledged to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants interested in contesting under the party’s platform.

As preparations for the next general elections continue, the party says its focus remains on promoting unity, strengthening internal structures, and ensuring that all members have confidence in the processes that will determine its candidates.
