Kwankwaso Working for Tinubu Behind the Scenes — Kano Governor’s Spokesman

Sanusi Bature, spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, has alleged that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential hopeful, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is secretly working for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Speaking during a television interview on Wednesday, Bature described Kwankwaso as “confused,” accusing him of pursuing inconsistent political alliances.

According to Bature, Kwankwaso, despite allegedly opposing a Yoruba presidency, has been engaging political figures in the South-West, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, in search of political support.

“Kwankwaso is getting confused. Somebody who does not believe in a Yoruba presidency has been moving from Abeokuta to Ibadan seeking political fortune,” Bature said.

“He engaged Obasanjo and the Oyo State governor to secure political support. This is political confusion because if you truly believe in something, you should stand by it.”

Bature further claimed that Kwankwaso had earlier sought an alliance with Governor Makinde, but turned to Peter Obi after the move failed, despite previously dismissing Obi’s political relevance during the 2023 elections.

He also alleged that Kwankwaso considered defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming he directed Governor Yusuf to meet President Tinubu to discuss a possible partnership and defection before later abandoning the plan.

“Kwankwaso once described Tinubu as his friend. He instructed the governor to meet the President over possible collaboration and defection to the APC, but later changed direction to pursue another political movement,” Bature added.

The APC chieftain further alleged that Kwankwaso’s political actions would ultimately benefit Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

“There are people working openly for Tinubu, and there are others working behind the scenes. I believe whatever Kwankwaso is doing will favour Tinubu because he already worked for him in 2023,” he said.
