Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has cautioned candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who emerged victorious in the House of Representatives and Senate primaries not to assume they have already won the general elections.
Bago gave the warning in Minna on Tuesday night while congratulating the party’s candidates shortly after the announcement of the primary election results by the returning officer.
He urged the party’s flag-bearers to reach out to aspirants who stepped down for them, as well as those they contested against, in the spirit of sportsmanship and unity.
“Doing this will build a stronger party. It is important to work as a team. Don’t rejoice yet; the battle is not over,” the governor said.
Bago also commended the APC electoral committee for conducting the House of Representatives and Senate primaries peacefully and smoothly across the state.
He further praised aspirants who embraced consensus arrangements, noting that their cooperation made the committee’s work easier.
The governor thanked members of the electoral committee and other APC stakeholders in the state for their dedication and hard work, which he said contributed to the success of the exercise.
