Members of the Kwankwasiyya movement, loyal to former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have begun a gradual exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

This development follows Kwankwaso’s defection from the ADC to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday, alongside former Anambra State governor and ex-presidential candidate Peter Obi.

In an interview with The Punch, a spokesperson for the movement, Mansur Kurugu, stated that no final decision has been made regarding whether members who secured positions under the ADC will also defect to the NDC. However, he confirmed that several key figures in Kano particularly loyalists of Kwankwaso have already left the party.

Kurugu disclosed that both he and the immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, have officially defected from the ADC to the NDC.

He added that, according to the ADC constitution, members who secured party positions are expected to assume their roles on May 12, 2026. Despite this, he noted that nearly all members of the House of Representatives aligned with the Kwankwasiyya movement have already exited the ADC in favor of the NDC.
