FG Proposes N57,000 as New Minimum Wage

The organized Labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress( NLC) and the Trade Union Congress shifted their grounds from the proposal they made earlier to the Federal Government.

The organized Labour on Wednesday dropped their demand for an improved new minimum wage from an initial N615,000 to N497,000 after they couldn’t reach an agreement in the meeting held on Tuesday.

The Federal Government proposed N57,000 monthly minimum wage as against the 54,000 earlier proposed but rejected by the organized Labour.
The organized Labour was compelled to reduce its demand to ensure the Federal Government meets up with the arrangement but despite their shifting ground, they are yet to reach their agreement that labour found it appalling that the government is not showing any sign of empathy despite knowing that the masses were struggling to adjust to the hardship and inflation brought about by its policies.

When asked about the next course of action if Wednesday’s meeting ends in another deadlock, the unionist stated that they may return to tell the anxious Nigerian workers to stay back home until the FG comes up with an acceptable offer.

The committee is yet to agree on a new minimum wage as the NLC and TUC rejects the 57,000 minimum wage proposed by the Federal Government.
