The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over allegations that he unlawfully accessed a private telephone conversation involving the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
El-Rufai, who also previously served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, was brought before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, where he is facing an amended charge bordering on alleged unauthorized interception and related offences.
At the commencement of proceedings on Thursday, counsel to the prosecution informed the court that the initial charges filed against the former governor had been reviewed and expanded. According to the prosecution, the charge sheet was amended to include a total of five counts, up from the original three, reflecting additional allegations uncovered during the course of investigation.
The case is expected to proceed as the court considers the amended charges and hears arguments from both the prosecution and the defence. Further details regarding the substance of the allegations and the defendant’s plea were not immediately disclosed at the time of filing this report.
