Kwankwaso Appeals for Voter Registration as ADC Rift Deepens

Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to actively participate in the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso made the appeal in a video shared via his official 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) account on Monday night, urging eligible voters—particularly young people—to complete their registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) without delay.

He also encouraged citizens to register with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as a coalition platform seeking to unseat the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

“Fellow Nigerians, it is time for every eligible citizen—young and old, in cities and villages, at home and abroad—to take two decisive steps,” Kwankwaso said. “Register to vote with INEC without delay, and register with the ADC.”

Meanwhile, a factional leader of the ADC, Nafi’u Bala Gombe, has dismissed any potential engagement with Kwankwaso, citing what he described as the former governor’s past actions.

Speaking during an interview with Premier Radio in Kano, Gombe accused Kwankwaso of failing to act in the best interest of Northern Nigeria when he had the opportunity. He further alleged that Kwankwaso contributed to the region’s current challenges and missed the chance to make meaningful changes.

According to Gombe, “Any discussion concerning the North with people like you is meaningless. The North once looked up to leaders like you, but you failed to deliver when it mattered most.”

He also claimed that Kwankwaso’s decision to contest in the last general election weakened Northern Nigeria politically, particularly at a time when former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was also in the race.
