Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Monday received a large number of defectors into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo North, using the occasion to reaffirm unity within the party and his administration’s commitment to development across the state.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, the governor highlighted his government’s focus on improving the quality of life for residents. Speaking at a well-attended mega rally held at Auchi Open Field in Etsako West Local Government Area, Okpebholo said his administration has already recorded noticeable achievements within a short time, despite operating with limited resources. He stressed that the SHINE Agenda is beginning to deliver tangible results in critical sectors.

Addressing party members and the new entrants, the governor assured them of fairness and inclusiveness, emphasizing that all members would enjoy equal opportunities within the APC. He described the party as a united platform committed to the overall transformation and progress of Edo State.

Okpebholo expressed appreciation to the defectors for joining the APC, adding that their support would further strengthen the party’s position in the state. He also spoke confidently about future electoral prospects, stating that with a projected 2.5 million votes, the party’s victory would be unquestionable. According to him, Edo State has demonstrated that government resources, when properly managed, can be effectively used to drive meaningful development for the benefit of the people.

The event also had in attendance key party leaders and stakeholders, including the Edo State APC Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, as well as leaders from Edo North. They formally received the defectors and described their decision to join the APC as a significant boost to the party’s growing influence and strength in the region.

During the rally, Tenebe reaffirmed the party’s endorsement of Senator Adams Oshiomhole as the sole candidate for the Edo North Senatorial District ahead of the upcoming primary election. This decision was unanimously supported by party members through a voice vote, reflecting strong internal agreement and cohesion.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area, Benedicta Attoh, described their move not as a defection but as a return to their political roots. She explained that many of them were originally members of the APC and had simply found their way back. Drawing a biblical analogy, she likened their return to the story of the prodigal son, who left home but later realized the value of his origin and came back.

The rally also witnessed the return of several notable political figures, including former Edo State House of Assembly member, Sylvester Eruaga, alongside hundreds of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Many of the returnees described the APC as a platform that offers hope and better prospects for both political participation and governance in Edo State.

Overall, the event underscored growing support for the APC in Edo North and reinforced the party’s message of unity, inclusiveness, and commitment to development.
