Arsenal youngster Max Dowman has written his name into the record books after becoming the youngest player to score in Premier League history, although he has not surpassed the overall record for the youngest scorer in England’s top division.
European football has long witnessed exceptional teenage talents who announced themselves early by scoring at ages many players are still developing in youth teams.
As highlighted by Planet Football on Monday, below is a breakdown of the youngest scorers recorded in each of Europe’s five major leagues.
La Liga – Lamine Yamal (Barcelona)
Age: 16 years, 87 days
Yamal was handed his first-team opportunity by coach Xavi during Barcelona’s 2023/24 championship campaign, becoming the club’s youngest player to feature in more than 100 years.
He later scored his first league goal against Granada, with the assist coming from Joao Felix. Since then, he has continued to reach major milestones, including becoming Spain’s youngest goalscorer at international level and one of the youngest players in Europe to reach 100 senior appearances.
England Top Division – Jason Dozzell (Ipswich Town)
Age: 16 years, 57 days
Dozzell still holds the record as the youngest player to score in England’s top division after marking his debut with a goal for Ipswich Town in 1984 during Bobby Robson’s tenure.
Although Max Dowman now holds the record for the Premier League era, he remains 16 days older than Dozzell’s long-standing overall record. Notably, Dozzell’s son, Andre, also enjoyed a dream debut by scoring for Ipswich in the Championship at age 16.
Ligue 1 – Richard Krawczyk (Lens)
Age: 16 years, 105 days
Krawczyk set the French league record in 1963 when he scored the first goal in Lens’ 2–1 victory against Angers. Despite the emergence of many young stars in French football over the years, his record has remained untouched for decades.
Serie A – Amedeo Amadei (Roma)
Age: 15 years, 280 days
Amadei still stands as the youngest scorer not just in Serie A but across Europe’s top five leagues. He achieved the feat with Roma in 1937 before turning 16.
Nicknamed the “Eighth King of Rome,” he later built a celebrated career playing for clubs such as Roma, Inter Milan and Napoli. He also won the Serie A title in the 1941/42 season and was honoured with induction into the Italian Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
Bundesliga – Youssoufa Moukoko (Borussia Dortmund)
Age: 16 years, 28 days
Moukoko became Germany’s youngest Bundesliga scorer while playing for Borussia Dortmund, a club known for developing young stars such as Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.
Although he has scored 16 Bundesliga goals so far, his development has seen ups and downs, including a loan spell at Nice before his move to FC Copenhagen. Still only 21, he has time to fully realise his promise.
From Amadei’s historic record in Italy to Dowman’s recent achievement in England, Europe continues to produce teenage footballers capable of breaking barriers and showing their quality at the highest level of the game.
