President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to depart Abuja today on a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the visit is aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relations between Nigeria and Türkiye, as well as exploring new areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.

The visit follows a previous official trip to Nigeria by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan from October 19 to 20, 2021, during the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

During President Tinubu’s visit, both countries will engage in strategic political and diplomatic discussions focused on shared interests in finance, communication, trade, and investment. The agenda includes meetings between senior government officials of both nations and the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) covering scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military cooperation, and protocol, among others.

A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will also be held to bring together investors from both countries to explore mutually beneficial investment opportunities.

Members of President Tinubu’s delegation participating in the bilateral engagements include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.

Other members of the entourage are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu is expected to return to the country at the conclusion of the visit.
