Kwankwaso Vows to Make Supporters’ Interests Priority Amid Rumours

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has assured his supporters that he will make decisions that advance their collective interests, even as speculation continues over possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement on January 19, 2026, Kwankwaso extended his appreciation to his loyal base — particularly activists on social media and youth supporters — for their steadfast commitment to the ideals of the Kwankwasiyya movement. He emphasised that their unwavering dedication forms the foundation of the political future he envisions for the party and the larger Nigerian polity.

“Your unwavering dedication to the timeless ideals of Kwankwasiyya service, integrity, and people‑centered progress, together with your remarkable patience amid every challenge and tribulation, is the very foundation upon which the promising future of our movement is being built,” Kwankwaso said in the message. He pledged that the movement will remain focused on delivering decisions that uplift and benefit all Nigerians, with a special priority on the party’s loyal youth following.

The renewed reassurance comes amid ongoing rumours about Kwankwaso’s possible defection from the NNPP to either the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as political stakeholders reposition ahead of the 2027 elections. While speculations about his next political move continue to circulate, Kwankwaso underscored his commitment to his followers, promising to ensure that any decisions taken will prioritise their interests and welfare.

Analysts say Kwankwaso’s response is aimed at maintaining unity within his support base at a time of heightened political maneuvering, where defections and alliances are shaping up across the party landscape. By reaffirming his attention to the needs of his supporters, he is signalling continuity in leadership and strategic focus on shared goals, even as broader political realignments are discussed.

Kwankwaso’s statement also reflects his long history of grassroots mobilisation and political engagement, with supporters drawn primarily from Northern Nigeria’s youth and civil society circles. His leadership in the Kwankwasiyya movement has emphasised empowerment, civic participation and responsive governance — themes he reiterated as foundational to his political approach going into the 2027 cycle.

Although he has not formally announced any change in party affiliation, Kwankwaso’s assurance to his base highlights his determination to centre their interests in upcoming political decisions, even amid speculation about alliances or strategic shifts.

As Nigeria’s political terrain continues to evolve ahead of the next elections, Kwankwaso’s message underscores the ongoing balancing act between political strategy and grassroots loyalty that many leaders are navigating.
