Greek Super League champion PAOK FC, led by Nigerian international William Troost-Ekong, won the 2023–2024 season.

The moment of glory occurred on Sunday night when PAOK defeated Aris 2-1 on the road to win their fourth league title. With 80 points from 36 games, they are now two points ahead of their rivals, AEK Athens.

Two minutes into the second half of the game, Loren Moron of Aris tied the score after Brandon Thomas of PAOK opened the scoring on the hour mark. But Taison’s goal in the 62nd minute turned out to be the winner, setting up raucous celebrations among the PAOK supporters.

Manager Razvan Lucescu did not pick Troost-Ekong in the matchday squad, although the 30-year-old center-back was crucial to the White and Blacks’ success during the season. Before having surgery in February after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Troost-Ekong made 10 league appearances for the team.

Recently back to full training, Troost-Ekong took to X to share his happiness, writing, “CHAMPIONS OF GREECE.”

Troost-Ekong, who joined the team in 2023, has made a name for himself as PAOK and the Super Eagles’ dependable center back. He also leads as the captain of the Nigerian national football team.
