The Police Service Commission (PSC) has commended the Nigeria Police Force for its effective and efficient deployment of officers and men during the off-cycle Anambra State governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

In a statement by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission described the Police performance as “above average,” noting that their professionalism contributed significantly to the peaceful conduct of the election.

According to reports from PSC staff monitors across Anambra State, police officers maintained a high level of orderliness and professionalism throughout the exercise.

The leader of the PSC monitoring team, Bar. Taiwo Lakanu, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, praised the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Olukayode Egbetokun, for ensuring that officers were adequately equipped and deployed to create an atmosphere conducive to a free and fair election.

Lakanu, who visited several polling units, said he observed peace and calmness, adding that voters exercised their franchise without fear.

“I didn’t witness any ballot snatching in the areas I visited. The voting centres were orderly and peaceful,” he said.

He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting continuous improvement in police performance during elections as part of efforts to deepen democracy in Nigeria.

Ferdinand Ekpe, Director of the Department of Police Discipline and leader of the PSC monitoring team in Anambra North, also reported effective collaboration between the Police and other security agencies, including the NSCDC. His team covered polling units in Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Ogbaru, and Oyi Local Government Areas.

In Anambra Central, George Muruako, Deputy Director of the Department of Police Investigation, led another team that monitored polling units in Awka and Anaocha LGAs. He noted that officers were courteous and maintained order around voting areas, with an average of three to five police officers per polling unit, supported by sister agencies.

In Anambra South, a team led by Mrs Justina Okurubonye, Deputy Director in the Department of Police Investigation, monitored five local government areas—Orumba North, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, and Nnewi North. The team observed that officers were professional, properly identified with name tags, and worked in synergy with other security agencies.

The PSC concluded that the overall conduct of the Police during the Anambra governorship election was commendable and contributed to the credibility of the exercise.
