Factional PDP Acting Chairman Abdulrahman Takes Over Wadata Plaza Amid Leadership Crisis

he deepening leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new turn on Monday as factional Acting National Chairman, Muhammed Abdulrahman, moved into the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

Abdulrahman, who was appointed acting chairman by a faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) last Saturday, arrived at the secretariat accompanied by supporters and security personnel.

The development follows a series of suspensions and counter-suspensions within the party’s hierarchy. On Saturday, the PDP NWC led by Umar Damagum announced the suspension of National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), Deputy Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha, and National Organising Secretary Umar Bature for one month over alleged anti-party activities.

In a swift response, Anyanwu held a separate meeting with another group of NWC members, during which they announced the suspension of Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and five other national officers for one month. The group also named Abdulrahman, the party’s National Vice Chairman (North Central), as the new Acting National Chairman.

The latest development has further heightened tension within the PDP, with both factions claiming legitimacy over the party’s leadership and control of its national secretariat.
