No fewer than 650 members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gobirawa Ward of Dala Local Government Area, as well as parts of Fagge and Ungoggo Local Government Areas of Kano State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the defectors, who arrived in clusters under different leadership groups, were formally received on Thursday by the Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Rabiu Bichi.

Bichi, while welcoming the new members, attributed their defection to the exemplary leadership of President Bola Tinubu and the APC’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and the delivery of democratic dividends.

He highlighted some of the key achievements of the Tinubu-led administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the student loan scheme, agricultural reforms, and various youth and women empowerment programmes.

Bichi also revealed that the River Basin Authority is partnering with the Bank of Agriculture to provide soft loans to farmers as part of ongoing efforts to boost food security.

Assuring the new members of equal rights and opportunities within the APC, he reiterated the party’s dedication to justice, equity, and national development.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Ahmad Gobirawa said their decision to join the APC was influenced by the visible progress achieved under President Tinubu’s administration within less than two years.

He expressed confidence that their move would further strengthen the APC’s support base in Kano State and beyond.

The defection ceremony, which drew party stalwarts, community leaders, and youth groups, was described as a major political gain for the APC and a testament to its growing grassroots influence across the state.
