Ifeoma Azikiwe, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has won the by-election for the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency in Anambra State.

Announcing the result early Sunday, INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Ibiam Ekpe, said Azikiwe secured 7,774 votes, defeating her closest challenger, Justice Azuka of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who received 1,909 votes.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ezennia Ojekwe, garnered 1,371 votes, while Njideka Ndiwe of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) got 655 votes.

Prof. Ekpe commended the peaceful conduct of the election and praised voters for their strong turnout. He declared Azikiwe duly elected, having met all legal requirements.

The by-election was held to fill the seat left vacant following the tragic kidnapping and death of former lawmaker Justice Azuka. Azikiwe is expected to serve the remaining two years of the term.
