Joseph Ikpea of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the Edo Central Senatorial by-election held on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
The Returning Officer, Professor Kingsley Omo-Iwoze, announced the results early Sunday in Ubiaja, Esan South-East Local Government Area. Ikpea secured a total of 105,129 votes, defeating his closest rival, Joe Okojie of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 15,146 votes.
“This is the declaration. Joseph Ikpea of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the election,” said Prof. Omo-Iwoze.
In his acceptance speech, the Senator-elect expressed gratitude to God and the people of the district. He described the outcome as a choice for “vision over sentiment” and pledged to prioritize legislation in infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and support for traditional institutions.
Ikpea also acknowledged the role of Governor Monday Okpebholo, describing him as a strategic and selfless leader whose support contributed to the victory.
The seat became vacant after Governor Okpebholo, who previously held the position, assumed office as Edo State Governor.
