The Anambra State Police Command has stepped up security ahead of Saturday’s bye-elections in the state, assuring residents of a peaceful and safe electoral process.

The elections will be held in Anambra South Senatorial District to elect a new senator, and in the Onitsha North 1 Constituency for a state House of Assembly seat.

Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that personnel and equipment have been deployed to strategic locations, especially known flashpoints, to prevent any form of disruption.

He explained that this security reinforcement is part of efforts to maintain law and order before, during, and after the elections. “Our goal is to guarantee a hitch-free, peaceful, and credible exercise,” Ikenga said.

Assistant Inspector General of Police, Godwin Eze, who is overseeing the election security operations, also gave assurances of safety, urging voters to come out and exercise their rights without fear.

He appealed to residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel.

Ikenga reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to professionalism, neutrality, and the protection of lives and property throughout the election period.
