Peter Obi Rethinking Coalition Move, Says ADC’s Kachikwu

Dumebi Kachikwu, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has claimed that Peter Obi is already considering pulling out of the newly formed coalition led by the ADC.

Earlier in July, Obi the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer joined other opposition leaders to launch the ADC as a coalition platform aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. Just two days after the coalition’s launch, Obi declared his intention to run for president in 2027, despite still holding his Labour Party membership card.

However, Kachikwu insists that Obi will not be permitted to contest under the ADC platform, alleging that the party’s structure is being tailored to support the presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Kachikwu, who has repeatedly accused opposition leaders of hijacking his party, said Obi has realized the coalition was designed to serve Atiku’s interests.

“The entire ADC structure is being packaged for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar,” Kachikwu said. “Since I began raising the alarm, the developments within the coalition speak for themselves. Someone like Mr. Peter Obi now sees clearly that the whole coalition was built around Atiku. From what we understand, he’s exploring other options. Others with presidential ambitions are also beginning to understand that this so-called coalition is nothing more than a platform for Atiku’s candidacy.”

Kachikwu firmly stated that the ADC will not serve as a vehicle for Atiku’s ambition. He emphasized that the 2027 elections must not be defined by what he termed “class exploitation” by the political elite.

He vowed to resist such maneuvers by educating and empowering Nigerians to fully exercise their political rights.
