The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced a three-day period of national mourning in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London.

In a statement issued on Monday in Kano, the party’s Interim National Chairman, Senator David Mark, praised Buhari’s lifelong commitment to Nigeria, both as a military leader and a democratically elected president.

“President Muhammadu Buhari was a statesman of exceptional character,” Mark said. “As a soldier, he defended the unity and territorial integrity of Nigeria. As a president, he played a key role in strengthening democratic governance.”

During the mourning period, the ADC will suspend all political activities nationwide. The party also urged the Federal Government to immortalise Buhari through national monuments or institutions that reflect the values he stood for.

The ADC extended condolences to the Buhari family, the Nigerian government, and all citizens mourning the former president’s passing.
