The Lagos State Coroner’s Court sitting in Ikorodu has ruled out foul play or homicide in the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
However, the court recommended the criminal prosecution of auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe for her role in the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
Delivering the findings on Friday, Magistrate C.A. Shotobi held that Ogedengbe acted with gross negligence by administering an injection to Mohbad without a proper prescription from a licensed medical doctor. The court described her actions as both unlawful and professionally irresponsible.
During her testimony in March 2025, Ogedengbe admitted to administering a tetanus injection to Mohbad. Shortly after, the singer reportedly began vomiting and showed signs of adverse reaction.
Magistrate Shotobi stated:
“In line with Section 29 of the Coroner Laws of Lagos State, this court recommends that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) initiate appropriate legal action against Feyisayo Ogedengbe for unauthorized medical practice and gross negligence.”
The coroner also called for a thorough investigation into Mohbad’s prior petition to the police alleging assault and intimidation by music executive Naira Marley and associate Sam Larry, citing revelations that emerged during the inquest.
Additionally, the court criticized Mohbad’s father for hastily burying his son without first demanding an autopsy. The singer’s wife was also faulted for opting to treat him at home rather than immediately seeking proper medical attention at a hospital.
